The only Purebred Arabian contest on the card, the opening 1200m maiden for runners foaled in the UAE, was dominated by horses trained by Ernst Oertel for Khalid Khalifa Al Nabooda, the pair supplying the first four home with the owner’s retained jockey Tadhg O’Shea just prevailing aboard AF Mutakafel (AF Alsalaam x AF Alghabra by Amer, just denying AF Afham (AF Alsalaam x AMIRAT Al Jazeera by Za'eem ASF), ridden by Marcelino Rodrigues, with the pair flashing past the post virtually simultaneously although separated by the width of the track.

A homebred 4yo colt AF Mutakafel had actually crossed the line first his debut, over 1400m here at Jebel Ali, in December only to be disqualified after the race for causing interference. He was then well beaten on turf at Abu Dhabi but bounced back in game fashion.

AF Yenomes (AF Al Buraq x Fleur Du Cayrou by Dormane) ridden by Elione Chaves was in third place and AF Layth (AF Al Buraq x Blood Pressure by Dormane) with George Buckell in fourth. AF Hukooma (AF Al Buraq x -Temptayshuhn by Arawak D'Aroco) ridden by Ray Dawson finished in sixth place and AF Mu'Azer (AF Lafeh x Petra De Faust by Prince D'orient) led by Adrie de Vries in eighth.

Oertel said: “We like bringing horses here to Jebel Ali and these races for local breeders are very well received and we are keen to support them. Tadhg has ridden the winner perfectly and it is a great result for the whole team.”
